About Seattle Cedar Supply

Our Company

Seattle Cedar Supply was started in 2004 as a small, family owned company, specializing in providing the highest quality cedar shakes and shingles to local contractors. We have since grown into a full service roofing materials distributor, offering rooftop loading and crane services, as well as a wide range of roofing products.

We have always had customer service in mind, first and foremost. From timely delivery service, to one of the largest selections of specialty roofing products and hard to find items in stock, we will continue to be an excellent source for all your roofing needs. We now offer quick turn-around service on all of your custom PVC and TPO components, as well as metal manufacturing of all types of coping, flashings, and scupper boxes in a wide variety of materials.

Seattle Cedar Supply offers a full line of cedar shakes and sidewall shingle products. We specialize in high quality double edge trimmed premium grade shakes. However, we also work closely with a variety of mills to provide a wide range of products specific to customers’ requirements.

Based out of the Northwest, Seattle Cedar Supply is located in close proximity to some of the oldest and largest cedar shake mills in the region. This enables us to more closely monitor the quality and consistency of the products we offer.

Products

Today cedar shakes and shingles are cut to length and thickness from the best part of the tree, the heartwood.  Heartwood tends to be straight grained, which means it can be manufactured into products that will remain flat and precise, making it inherently more durable and unmatched in beauty.

Shingles are sawn flat on both faces, giving them a relatively smooth surface appearance while shakes are split along the grain for a more natural and textured look. Taper-sawn shakes combine the thick dimensions of a shake with the clean, tailored look of a shingle.

Why is wood better than the alternatives?

Wood is the only 100% renewable resource available in the roofing industry today. It is a nontoxic, replenish-able resource that can be naturally recycled. The longer durability of cedar roofing materials outweighs any initial savings from using synthetic products.

Many synthetics and wood substitutes are marketed as “eco-friendly”, when in fact they are made of materials that are mined or pumped from the earth, and cannot be replaced. In addition, the energy used to manufacture these alternative products and the subsequent pollution created during this process, is a much more serious issue than wood harvesting has ever been.

The forest industry is regulated and must replace what it removes; the same cannot be said of petrochemicals and ores, all used to create synthetic roofing materials. And wood is biodegradable, unlike the substitute products that can linger in landfills for decades, if not longer.

Customer Selection

Cedar shakes and shingles from different mills vary greatly.  Choosing the right product to match desired aesthetics or needs is an important part of. Depending on the customers’ requirements, we can deliver the right product at the right price.
